Descent – Themes Part II

My book, Descent, came out officially on Friday, November 4, 2022. It has been a book in my head for about three years. I was so excited to finally release it for the public to read it.

I already know readers are going to be curious about several themes in the book. The book is not a straightforward type of book. The book is an intergenerational family story and consists of many flashbacks. It follows the backstories of several family members. The main characters you will follow are the Reed family. The Reed family members are Arthur, his wife Zora, and their adult children Eric and Leilani. We hear more from this part of the family than some of the other characters throughout the novella. The Reed family is the reason why the matriarch, Marcela, is having a 75th birthday party. The majority of the book follows the characters through this one day. Readers will discover some twists in the story. The biggest twist will come at the end.

The main themes of the book are: family trauma, trauma bonding, codependency, fear, loneliness, unworthiness, mysticism, darkness, and narcissism. I always wanted to write a book with all of these elements and I hope I achieved my goal with this book. If you read the book, I hope you will see what I did with all of the themes I listed above. Please comment or send me a message if you do pick up my book. I want to know your thoughts. We can have a fun discussion about the themes.
