Colors Creative

What is your favorite color? What colors inspire you?

My favorite color is Kelly Green. I tell people my favorite color is green but specifically it’s Kelly Green. It’s darker than lime green but not as dark as army green. Colors inspire me all the time. Haven’t you noticed how often a color is used in the titles of books or referenced in songs? The usage of color keep us creative. Colors are even used in place of emotions or traits (e.g., green with envy or ‘she’s very fiery’ (which make you think of the color red).

This is what a true Kelly Green looks like.

Kelly Green is a very popular shade of green because it is in the middle between light and dark. I have liked different colors throughout my life starting with pink, then red, and finally settling on green. I picked Kelly Green as my specific shade likely about ten years ago.

I did some research on the color green. According to verywellmind.com, green represents nature, luck, and tranquility. They also say green is used often in decorating for its ‘calming effect’. I believe this because I immediately gravitate to the plants I see in people’s homes. I love seeing plants strategically placed in common areas and bedrooms.

I believe colors can inspire creativity. Remember how excited you were in 1991 when Crayola released its biggest box of colors at that point? They had a huge box of 64 colors. This was a classic box. A few years later more colors would be added to make the largest box of colors at 96!

Painters take the use of color into much consideration before starting a new project. They practice enough to know how color creates depth. Art museums used to provide me ideas for short stories when I was a kid. I attempted to become a painter but was never good at it. It is one of the reasons I greatly admire muralists and other painters.
